For the past two months, until her trip was cut short due to Covid-19, Junko Matsuda, M.D., Ph.D. Professor of Department of Pathophysiology and Metabolism at Kawasaki Medical School in Japan, was visiting the Platt lab as an academic fellow of Green Templeton College at Oxford University. In addition to being a paediatrician at the Kawasaki Medical school, she is also an expert in sphingolipid biology and lysosomal storage disorders.
We learned a lot from Junko, especially her extensive knowledge of the saposins and characterisation of the saponin-deficient mouse models, and appreciate the scientific discussions. During her stay, Junko had the opportunity to perform the glycosphingolipid analysis of her new mouse model for Parkinson’ disease.
