Niemann-Pick Disease type C – role of calcium
Puravi’s research in the Platt Group focuses on studying the role of lysosomal calcium in signalling pathways in Niemann-Pick Disease type C. She is comparing the phenotypes of Niemann-Pick Disease type C with two-pore channel (TPC) knockouts, a separate model which also displays impaired mobilisation of lysosomal calcium. Puravi is in the midst of breeding NPC1/TPC2 double knockout mice to further investigate the role of lysosomal calcium mobilisation in promoting disease progression. She hopes to investigate different therapeutic compounds for the treatment of Niemann-Pick Disease type C.
